This document describes all safety-related designs and fittings of the Siemens Connexx 6.4, which is an industrial inverter machine. The manufacturer's declaration of conformity shows various design features that help to ensure that personnel are protected against risks, such as contact with live parts or objects, electrical shocks, fire hazards and machine overloads. There are also references to labelling requirements for electrical equipment according to the Machinery Directive EC Machinery Directives No. 98/37/EC (1998). The safety manual provides instructions on procedures necessary for safe set-up or use of the machine in accordance with applicable regulations. It also emphasizes safe practices e.g. in the use of tooling and electrode positioning. The main objective of this manual is to ensure that all safety-related designs are fulfilled, including the following: 1) Preventing any danger to life, health or safety of persons or damage to property during installation, set-up, operations and servicing of the machine. The intended contours of protection should be clearly visible on all access doors, switches/control panels etc. 2) Ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation in force in regard to product liability. 3) Ensuring compliance with the requirements of national electricity rules/laws including hot lines/preventive measures etc. 4) Providing information as to the safety practices and/or activities taking place at the workplace or before installing the machine, examples of which include: a) Ensuring safety-related information is presented and maintained in a manner that is: - Clearly visible and legible. - Dated and up to date. - Not misleading or confusing. b) Assigning safety-related tasks to persons with appropriate qualifications, training and facilities including: \tSiemens Connexx 5. 7 In 1990, the European Union adopted a new Machinery Directive which aimed to harmonise the safety requirements in the field of machinery. This usually referred to a requirement for a manufacturer's technical documentation in order to be in compliance with its national laws and regulations. Siemens Connexx 6.4 is a fully compliant machine in this context and will therefore have all relevant technical specifications and information required in accordance with EC Machinery Directives No. 98/37/EC (1998). The requirements for safety-related design also apply to Siemens Connexx 6.4 if these are not provided by other manufacturers within the European Union or if Siemens Connexx 6. 4 does not conform to the EC Machinery Directives. The main safety-related design of Siemens Connexx 6.4 is its shielding of live parts against potentially damaging contact during use and the neutralisation of the machine's input voltage against internal leakage, in order to ensure that internal energy is not inadvertently transferred to either living or moving parts or other safety-relevant systems. The design features protecting personnel are the following: Safety-related design features relating to servicing include: If Siemens Connexx 6.4 has no compliance with these standards, this will be added on request by informing the manufacturer or supplier on safety related aspects on their own responsibility. eccc085e13
